This week, Richard Orme, instructed by Lisa Paton of Reeds Solicitors, secured the acquittal of a defendant on all eight counts following trial.

The allegations included rape and threats to kill.

The consequences of conviction were particularly serious. The allegations were said to have occurred only weeks after the defendant’s release from a life sentence for murder, having served 34 years in custody. A conviction for these further offences therefore carried the prospect of the defendant spending the remainder of his life in prison.

Following trial, the defendant was acquitted of all eight charges.
