R v Long Wan

Ian Goldsack prosecuted a teacher for causing death by dangerous driving. The case was heard at Sheffield Crown Court before The Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC.
Defendant Long Wan had been travelling from Manchester when he struck cyclist Richard Bower on Rivelin Valley Road, Sheffield, on 29th September 2023. Mr Bower was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died three weeks later.
The inexperienced driver caused the death of the cyclist when his car veered onto the wrong side of the road due to a complete loss of concentration, the court heard.
On 25th February 2025, the defendant was sentenced to two years and was disqualified from driving for six years.
