James Hudson successfully appeals against sentence in Drug Importation

May 15, 2025

James Hudson recently appeared for the successful Appellant in R v Ali [2025] EWCA Crim 473.

The Appellant was sentenced to 41 months’ imprisonment for the importation of 80kg of cannabis.

The Court of Appeal decided that the Judge erred in finding that the Appellant played a significant role. It was decided that, on the Appellant’s basis, he played a lesser role.

The Court of Appeal allowed a 14-month reduction, resulting in a final sentence of 27 months’ imprisonment.

James was instructed by Isabel San Jose of Morton’s Solicitors.
