SJB Ride 2016

September 6, 2016

On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September, a team from St John’s Buildings will cycle the 125 mile journey from Liverpool to Sheffield, making a stop at each of our Chambers on the way. They are riding to raise money for Headway, our Chambers’ Charity of the Year.

Starting from SJB on Vernon Street in Liverpool on Saturday morning, the team will take the ferry to Birkenhead and then cycle to White Friars in Chester in time for lunch. The afternoon will see them ride to St John Street in Manchester where they will stay overnight. On Sunday morning they will ride from Manchester through the Peak District and on to our Leopold Street chambers in Sheffield.

The team comprises 11 barristers together with CEO Chris Ronan. Senior Civil Clerk Chris Shaw will be driving the essential kit van.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, Head of Corporate Services David Anderson is aiming to complete the same route– but in a single day. David has set himself this challenge following a serious cycling accident in 2015. He’ll be setting off with the team from Liverpool but then, provided his day goes to plan, powering his way to stops in Chester, Manchester and Sheffield before the sun sets.

CEO Chris Ronan commented: “We wanted to set ourselves a challenge that brings together all four cities in which we are based – and a four-stop cycling tour certainly fits the bill. It’s great to see barristers from each site giving up their weekends to join in and raise money as part of our year of fundraising for Headway.”

The participants are: Sally Harrison QC, Guy Mathieson, Douglas Denton, Gareth Thompson, Andrew Green, Kevin McNerney, Ian Goldsack, Andrew Bailey, Gordon Stables, Elis Gomer, Pepin Aslett, Chris Ronan and David Anderson, with Chris Shaw in the “broom-wagon”.
