R v Oliver Corney

July 14, 2025

Laura Marshall prosecuted Oliver Corney, who was sentenced to 11 years and nine months imprisonment by the Recorder of Sheffield at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday 11th July.

Following an altercation between two groups of males earlier in the evening in which he was not involved, the defendant attended at the Red Lion public house with a shotgun concealed inside his jacket.

The defendant confronted the male who had been involved in the earlier confrontation with the defendants’ friends. A verbal and physical altercation took place just outside the garden of the pub. The defendant then fired the shotgun three times intending to hit the male he had been arguing with. Instead, the landlady of the public house, who had attempted to intervene, was shot in the leg and required surgery.

This case has received media coverage in the BBC, ITV, the Mirror, Yorkshire Post, and Yahoo.
