R v Mark Baddeley
Ben Lawrence prosecuted a man who groomed a 14-year old girl and then attacked her at knife point.
Mark Baddeley was jailed for six years with a further five years on license after his assault on the girl. He had groomed her by creating a Facebook profile where he pretended to be a 17-year-old called Jacob.
He then arranged to meet the victim at Festival Park, Stoke-on-Trent, where he pulled out a knife and grabbed her by the neck.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard that Baddeley handed himself in on March 26.
Baddeley pleaded guilty to meeting a child following sexual grooming, having a knife in public, kidnap, and committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence.
Judge David Fletcher made Baddeley the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for life.
The case was covered by The Stoke Sentinel.
