R v Christopher Swain

July 1, 2015

Gordon Stables prosecuted in the eight-day trial of Christopher Swain, who was convicted of seven sex offences including five counts of rape, four counts of theft, and fraud by false representation. Swain was sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment. He left two women on the verge of bankruptcy and used threats and physical violence to subject one of them to what Mr Justice Males described as a ‘campaign of rape’.

The case was heard at Sheffield Crown Court. It has received national press coverage in the Mirror, the Daily Mail, and the Express, and was also covered in the Star in Sheffield.
