Gordon Stables prosecuted a stepmother who “abused, humiliated, belittled and neglected” her three daughters over a 16-year period, in R v Caroline Sharp.

Caroline Sharp, 65, subjected her own daughter and two stepchildren, now in their 40s, to “the childhood of nightmares”, a court heard. Her crimes, carried out between 1975 and 1991, came to light when one of her stepdaughters reported her to the police in 2015.

Sharp, who admitted three charges of child cruelty, was jailed for two years at Grimsby crown court.

The case received nationwide media attention including in The Times, The Mail, The Sun, The Mirror and The Metro.
