Philip Grundy Retires
The members and staff of St John’s Buildings wish Philip Grundy a very happy retirement after 46 years at the independent Bar.
A member of Chambers since 1987 and one of the original “28 St John Street” barristers who formed St John’s Buildings Chambers when merging with 24a St John Street in 2002, Philip retires at the pinnacle of the profession, having been nominated for ‘Junior Barrister of the Year’ at the Personal Injury Awards as recently as 2023.
Recommended as a leading expert in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 for many years, the latest edition of Chambers & Partners captures Philip’s ability perfectly when it says:

Philip leaves behind an exceptional legacy of barristers at St John’s Buildings who were his past-pupils, including Annette Gumbs, Callum Brook and Catherine Dent.
An excellent golfer and grandfather to four (soon to be six), Philip will continue to sit as a Recorder in the County and Crown courts and will continue his charitable work with Headway.
We wish him a long and happy retirement from the independent bar and thank him for his extensive and lasting contribution to St John’s Buildings.
