David joined St John’s Buildings in 2008 after five years working at the Bar Council in roles including remuneration policy, complaints and as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Bar. At SJB he is responsible for governance, regulatory affairs, internal and external communications, complaints, human resources, marketing, facilities and strategy and policy developments. David is also an IRCA Certified ISO9001:2015 Auditor and takes an active role in overseeing Chambers’ ED&I strategy.
Having studied law at university (2:1 LLB (Hons)), David’s background includes working on the Bar Council team responsible for the Legal Services Act and the Carter Review of Legal Aid and he continues to hold an interest in the changing legal services market. David is also Company Secretary of St John’s Buildings Ltd.
In December 2023, David became the first ever non-lawyer President of Manchester Law Society, a role he was honoured to accept.
In his distant past, David ran for Great Britain and was AAAs half-marathon champion and British Aquathlon champion and continues to enjoy sport, although it tends to be from an armchair these days!
