Civil Clerk

Alex is very detailed in his advice and provides options on how best to proceed. He reviews papers and instructions in detail and does not miss out any important information.”

Legal 500, 2026 (IT, Telecoms and Data Protection - Rising Star)

Alex has a broad civil practice encompassing commercial, personal injury/clinical negligence and information law.

Alex enjoys a busy paperwork practice alongside his regular court work, and prides himself on his ability to meet tight deadlines when returning papers.

Commercial & chancery litigation

Alex provides advice and pleadings in matters across the spectrum of commercial and chancery law. Alex has acted as a junior in cases worth seven figures, and in his own right on cases worth six figures.

Alex regularly appears in court on commercial matters, from interlocutory hearings all the way through to trials and appellate proceedings. Alex has particular interest in consumer and contract law.

As part of his chancery work Alex is regularly instructed to provide written advice on the suitability of proposed Personal Injury Trusts in accordance with the requirements set out in OH v Craven. Alex is well placed to provide such advice given his parallel personal injury practice.

Recent cases:

Audley Clarke Solicitors v MDMKJB Limited (2025): 2-day trial concerning a fully contested contract dispute arising out of a commercial agreement. Alex obtained judgment for the Claimant in excess of £150,000.

Personal injury

Alex accepts instructions in all areas of personal injury and (particularly) clinical negligence work, acting for both Claimants and Defendants.

Alex enjoys a busy courtwork practice, regularly taking cases from the pre-action stage all the way to successful conclusion at trial or favourable settlement. Outside of court he provides advice and pleadings in complex injury cases, frequently conducting conferences on complex matters with both experts and clients.

Recent cases:

MI v NHS Suffolk (2025): Case involving a tetraplegic Claimant who developed severe pressure sores and osteomyelitis whilst in the Defendant’s care, liability denied. Settled favourably following negotiations post-issue.

Murray v Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (First-Tier Tribunal, 2024)Successfully appealed CICA’s decision to award a victim of historic sexual abuse the sum of £27,000. The Claimant was awarded compensation of £200,000 gross of interim payments.

(1) Masih (2) Ghafoor v Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Appeal Ref: KA 2022 BHM 000049: Led by Michael Redfern KC for the Claimant in an appeal on a clinical negligence case concerning an alleged avoidable death in hospital.

L v W: Employer’s liability case involving fall from scaffolding. Settled pre-trial for £60,000.

Data & information law

Alex has a particular interest in information law. He acts for both claimants and defendants, and receives regular instructions from most of the major North West data protection law solicitors. Much of his work is, by definition, confidential, but Alex has significant experience of settling advice and pleadings, as well as regular court appearances, including twice in the High Court.

When acting for claimants Alex enjoys an extremely high success rate, with his cases either settling favourably or else succeeding at trial. For defendants, Alex receives instructions to advise and represent large companies and bodies facing claims, allegations, subject access requests or regulatory penalties, and had successfully dismissed data breach claims at trial.

Recent Cases:

Farley & Ors v Paymaster (1836) Limited [2024] EWHC 383 (KB): Acted as second junior led by Oliver Campbell KC in a High Court claim concerning the sending of data of over 400 police officers to incorrect addresses.

X (anonymous) v ICO (2023): Successfully challenged the ICO’s decision to levy a £120,000 fine against a company for alleged breaches of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2013. The fine was dropped in its entirety.

Widdop v Farfield Group Practice (County Court, 2023): Appeared for the Defendant in the Claimant’s appeal against his claim having being struck out at trial.

Munteanu v Heathrow Airport Limited (County Court, 2022): Successfully obtained reverse summary judgment in a data protection claim brought against Heathrow Airport.
