Sick girl to be treated against parents’ wishes
Sara Mann represented a sick thirteen-month-old baby whose parents do not want her to have potentially life-saving treatment.
The child was born with kidney failure and has survived against the odds. Doctors have said that haemodialysis, where blood is taken and cleaned, is in her best interests.
High Court Judge, Mr Justice Hayden, speaking at a public hearing of the Family Division of the High Court in London, ruled that the child should be given a ‘chance’ and have the treatment, after he analysed the evidence
Mr Justice Hayden said he had been enormously impressed by the doctors’ commitment to the child.
Her parents said she had “gone through a lot” and her fate should be left in the hands of God.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is being cared for at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
