R v Mappley

October 15, 2019

Oliver King defended a photographer who secretly filmed a woman who was staying at his house with a hidden camera.

Barry William Mappley, of Lon Dderwen, was found guilty of two charges of voyeurism at Mold Magistrates Court and subsequently handed an eight month prison sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Mr King noted the man had no previous convictions and asked the court to draw back from immediate custody.

Due to the realistic prospect of rehabilitation the sentence was suspended for a year. Mr Mappley must attend 25 days of a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay his victim £500 in recognition of the distress caused.

He must sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years and not contact the woman by any means for an indefinite period.

The case was reported in The Daily Post.
