March 29, 2021

Maria Brannan successfully defended a young woman charged with seriously assaulting her ex-partner. The jury at Chester Crown Court acquitted the defendant of all counts, after hearing evidence that she had been subjected to coercive and controlling behaviour by her partner throughout their relationship. The defendant had significant cognitive difficulties, following brain injuries sustained in a car accident. Maria secured the assistance of an intermediary for the defendant to ensure her effective participation at trial.
