Chambers UK Bar 2021 listings

We are delighted to have 36 members listed in the latest edition of Chambers UK Bar.

Our Joint Heads of Chambers were both listed, with Frances Heaton QC described as having “a phenomenal intellect coupled with a calm, pragmatic manner” and Richard Norton as “a reliable and excellent advocate with fantastic experience and skill.”

Our Family team was described as “the leading family set in Manchester – you go to them first.” We have five QCs listed and nine juniors, with Sally Harrison QC described as having “care and compassion and can be as tough as is required;” Samantha Hillas QC as “phenomenal” and Clare Grundy as “an amazing barrister.”

For Court of Protection work, Joseph O’Brien is listed as a “Star Individual” and described as “the godfather of the Court of Protection.” Solicitors said he is “a force of nature – it’s outstanding how he can turn a case on its head once he gets on his feet.” Lorraine Cavanagh QC is ranked in both the COP and Family sections, and was described by a solicitor client as “exceptionally bright and fierce in court when needed. She is incredibly articulate and pragmatic.”

In Crime, SJB is described as “an impressive set for serious criminal matters” and Senior Clerk Mark Heald as “one of the best in the business – he delivers every time and the service he and his team provide is first rate.”

Of our Employment team, a solicitor client says “this is an excellent set for employment law, with very capable barristers who have a wealth of experience.” Tom Wood is a Rising Star and described as “really fast and very thorough in his advice.”

In the Personal Injury section, instructing solicitors say “everyone at the set is so professional and personable, from the reception staff right through to the clerks and counsel.” Richard Norton and Philip Grundy are listed in both Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence, with the latter described as “extremely personable, knowledgeable and a superb advocate.”
