R v Burke

Ben Lawrence prosecuted a man who repeatedly stabbed a man he thought had slept with his ex-girlfriend.

Liam Burke of Broadway, New Moston, has been jailed for 30 years for attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty, but was convicted after a trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Judge Richard Mansell QC told Burke: “You could simply not allow her to have any man in her life. This was therefore a cold-blooded, pre-meditated and concerted effort by you to kill him, consumed as you were by jealousy and anger towards her.”

The case was reported by Manchester Evening News.
