Inquest into the death of a 14-year-old girl
David Pojur and Laura Nash were instructed to act in an inquest into the death of a 14-year-old girl who hanged herself following a decision by South Yorkshire Police not to prosecute allegations of rape and sexual assault. David acted for Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council while Laura represented the investigating officer.
The Article 2 inquest examined the procedure in emergency call handling between police forces, referrals to specialist rape counselling services as well as safeguarding measures put in place by the school and the local authority for a number of children. It focussed on missed opportunities and two police forces and the IOPC were also represented. The Court issued a prevention of future death report to one of the forces.
David and Laura both sit as Assistant Coroners and are recommended as Leading Juniors in their specialist fields by the Legal 500.
