Inquest into Cyclist’s Death

June 22, 2015

Wendy J. Owen represented the family of Rhodri Hughes-Jones at an inquest in Caernarfon. Mr Hughes-Jones, 69, fell after cycling into a steel chain between two bollards in September last year. He was thrown off his bicycle, hit his head on the road and later died of his injuries.

Witnesses told the hearing that the chain was very difficult to see as it was obscured by the background of the road surface and shadows.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, North West Wales senior coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones said: “He had not anticipated coming across the chain.”

He added: “I expressed my concerns to Gwynedd Council. The chain referred to has been removed. There are now two bollards.”
