Car dealer fined for selling car with incorrect mileage
Crime and Regulatory specialist Rebecca Penfold was instructed by Oldham Borough Council in their prosecution of a car dealer for selling a ‘clocked’ car.
Oldham Council’s Trading Standards Department launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from a customer who had bought an Audi Q7 and later discovered a discrepancy over the mileage.
The court found the dealer guilty of four offences under the Business Protection from Misleading Marketing Regulations 2008 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
The defendants were ordered to pay a £4,000 fine, £6401.54 costs, £4,045 in compensation as well as a victim surcharge of £170.
