Busker convicted for fraud

December 16, 2016

Katy Appleton prosecuted a busker who was convicted for fraud after purporting to collect money for victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

Angus Carpenter played the bagpipes in Liverpool city centre dressed in full military uniform and displaying a ‘Justice for the 96’ banner.

The jury heard the man had been warned by police that, if he was not a registered charity collector, he was committing a serious offence. He was convicted on one count of fraud and will be sentenced in January.

The case was reported in the Liverpool Echo and on the BBC.
