Tim is regularly instructed for both the prosecution and the defence. He has over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of serious and organised crime. Recent cases have included: homicide; armed robbery; serious violence (including gang-related violence and prison riot); death by driving; fraud (including professional fraud); serious and historic sexual allegations; smuggling and international money laundering; national and international Class A drugs conspiracy. Tim is also sought after as defence counsel in misfeasance and other criminal allegations against the police. 

Crown Court & appeals

Tim was instructed in the first terrorism trial to be tried on the North Eastern circuit and is currently engaged for the defence in an allegation of involvement with an international organised crime group.

Cases

R v Kinnear (2017): Secured acquittal in allegation of historic sexual abuse.

R v Booth (2017): Defendant accused of entering a house wearing a mask and armed with a hammer with intent to commit a sexual offence. Secured acquittal.

R v Hooley (2016): Secured acquittal in allegation of Commercial Production of Cocaine.

R v Eden (2015): Secured acquittal in allegation of organised armed robbery.

R v Parkin (2015): Attempted murder by dousing partner in petrol and then attempting to set fire to her.

R v Vanstone (2014): Historic familial sexual allegations against an elderly infirm defendant. Secured acquittal.

R v Sowden (2013): Murder. Junior counsel for defence.

R v A (2012): Successfully defended a police officer in his appeal against conviction for assault during the course of an arrest.

R v Dempsey (2012): Defended one of the only two defendants acquitted following the Moorlands prison riot which resulted in £1 million worth of damage.

R v Roddis (2008): First allegation of terrorism to be tried on the North Eastern Circuit.

R v Birks & Others (2002): Large scale fraud dubbed “Donnygate” and described by The Guardian as “the worst local government corruption case since the Poulson scandal of the 1970s”.
