Georgina is undertaking a family law pupillage under the supervision of Louise Stanbury.
Whilst qualifying to become a barrister, Georgina worked within an employed barristers’ team at Browne Jacobson LLP where she investigated complex cases of teacher misconduct on behalf of the government regulator. These included:
- grooming and sexual relationships
- inappropriate physical contact
- safeguarding failures following pupil suicides
- the ‘off-rolling’ (illegal removal) of pupils
- bullying and intimidation
- the removal of teachers’ own children into care (including fabricated induced illness and alcoholism)
- the expression of religious extremist views in and outside the classroom
- teachers’ responsibilities relating to transgender pupils
Georgina supported many vulnerable witnesses to give evidence, including children, deaf witnesses and transgender pupils. She was praised by the regulator for the “invaluable support” she provided to win many decisions in their favour.
Before commencing the Barristers’ Training Course, Browne Jacobson made the unprecedented step of promoting Georgina to the role of an Assistant Advocate. In this role, Georgina successfully prosecuted teachers for misconduct, including a prohibition against a teacher for a sexual relationship with a pupil.
Georgina has previously worked as a Primary teacher in a disadvantaged area of Nottingham through the Teach First programme, and then developed award-winning arts education programmes in museums and galleries across the Midlands. In particular, Georgina has worked directly with:
- Years 1 & 2 (ages 5-7)
- preschool children and their parents
- children with profound and multiple learning disabilities
- children with autism
- teenagers excluded from mainstream education
These experiences have given Georgina a wealth of practical experience to draw upon when working with vulnerable witnesses and advocating on behalf of vulnerable clients.
