A Local Authority v The Mother & Ors [2026] EWFC 126

Five members of St John’s Buildings’ Family team were instructed on behalf of multiple parties in a complex and sensitive matter recently determined by the High Court.
Counsel from chambers appeared across a number of roles in the proceedings, including:
- Lorraine Cavanagh KC and Helen Davey, instructed by the Local Authority, for the applicant
-
Richard Veni (led by Claire Wills-Goldingham KC of Colleton Chambers) instructed by Sills & Betteridge Solicitors, for the first respondent
- Joseph O’Brien KC and Lance Dodgson, instructed by MKB Solicitors, for the second respondent
Following a detailed review of the evidence, the court found that the mother had fabricated or induced illness in a child. The court went on to make a child arrangements order providing for the child to live with the father, together with an order pursuant to section 91(14) of the Children Act 1989.
We are grateful to have been instructed across a number of roles in the proceedings and recognise the contributions of all counsel involved, together with the instructing solicitors.
The judgment has been published, available to read here.
