12 month prison sentence for failing to provide asset information under a freezing injunction

Pépin Aslett has secured a committal order against a defendant who ignored the requirements of a freezing injunction to provide a list of her assets.
A freezing injunction was originally granted by Miles J in March 2025 following the defendant’s failure to complete payments relating to her purchase of a law firm.
Following orders granted by Michael Green J in May 2025 for alternative service by email and WhatsApp message, Adam Johnson J was satisfied the defendant had been served with the freezing order and served with the contempt proceedings. The Judge was satisfied that there had been a ‘deliberate policy of non-engagement’.
The defendant was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in her absence for breaching the freezing order, having failed to attend a first hearing of the contempt application at which a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
Pepin Aslett represented Mr Sahota, instructed by Akbar Ali of Ali Legal Ltd.
The case has been reported in the Law Society Gazette and Legal Futures.
