POCA Proceedings Following £1m Tax Fraud

Laura Nash prosecuted POCA proceedings against Mubbashir Alam Aslam who was convicted in November 2014 of carrying out an elaborate £1m tax fraud.

Aslam set up six fake clothing businesses to cheat HM Revenue and Customs out of VAT refunds with fake receipts. He is alleged to have read “hundreds of books on business” whilst previously serving time for drug dealing.

Aslam pleaded guilty to cheating the public revenue and furnishing false returns in 2014, and following the POCA hearing is now required to pay back £398,214 or will be sent back to prison for four years.
