Inquest of Man Who Died in Custody

July 2, 2015

Laura Nash represented the family at the inquest of a Wrexham man who died in custody after stabbing himself in the stomach. The jury reached a narrative conclusion, saying they could not be certain Gary Douglass had intended to kill himself with the knife when police tried to detain him in 2013.

The inquest, which was sitting for a week in Ruthin, Denbighshire, had been told Mr Douglass suffered from Asperger’s syndrome, which led to him becoming obsessed with knives.

Mr Douglass had been arrested immediately after the attempted murder of a student.

David Pojur represented the health board for Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The case was covered on the BBC website and the Daily Post.
