R v Michael Coleman

Timothy Ashmole prosecuted Michael Coleman, a former coach of a youth football team, who has been found guilty of abusing an underage boy during the 1970s. Coleman has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Coleman is currently serving a seven-year sentence, having been convicted of abusing two boys during the 1980s. He was arrested in 2018 a part of a police investigation into historical sexual abuse in sport.

After learning about these convictions, another victim came forward and told how he had been abused by Coleman during the 1970s.

Coleman, who is now 79, managed Park Villa team, which played at New House Farm, near Leverhulme Park, Bolton in the 1970s.
