R v A

March 19, 2019

David James prosecuted a prolific thief and secured a Criminal Behaviour Order banning her from every retail shop in Manchester.

Amy Atherton, 42, was jailed for nine months and banned from dozens of shops in Manchester and Bury under the terms of the Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), after punching and biting a security guard at Kendals, Deansgate, on 17 December, 2018.

If she enters one of the stores she will be in breach of the order and could be jailed for up to five years.

When the offence took place, Atherton was already banned from all of Mike Ashley’s stores. Her picture was also displayed in shops to alert security guards. She had 89 previous offences to her name, including 53 for theft.

The case was covered by the Manchester Evening News.
