Michael Redfern QC appears on LBC and Sky News
Michael Redfern QC recently appeared on Sky News and the Shelagh Fogarty show on LBC, discussing the case of David Fuller.
Mr Redfern was invited to speak due to his expertise in conducting Government Inquiries, having Chaired the Royal Liverpool Children’s Inquiry (Alder Hey) in 2000 and the Redfern Inquiry into human tissue analysis in UK nuclear facilities between 2007 and 2010.
Mr Redfern commented on the case of Mr Fuller and the importance of rigorous audit at all hospitals in relation to best practice. This includes record keeping in relation to visitors to the mortuary, CCTV, work schedules and so on, which can be independently audited so that any unusual behaviour is identified early and any records can rigorously and independently inspected. This risk was identified by Mr Redfern as being even more profound when the mortuary is remote from the hospital itself.
While keen to note that he does not know of the level of audit or record keeping in the current case, Mr Redfern identified that familiarity and lack of audit can undermine the expected level of care and dignity that the deceased and their families can expect, and recommended an Inquiry takes place into the events and circumstances that enabled Mr Fuller to commit his crimes.
