 This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Criminal Clerk to join St John’s Buildings and lead the busy Criminal Clerking team based in our beautiful building in Sheffield City Centre. This role sits at level 3 of our 5-step Clerks’ Job Family, with plenty of potential for further development.

As Lead Clerk for Crime, you will:

  • be the go-to person for our Sheffield-based criminal practitioners for practice development reviews and updates;
  • develop close links with existing and potential new clients in the region;
  • have oversight of the day-to-day operations of the criminal clerking team; and
  • line-manage your two more junior colleagues.

You’ll be an experienced and confident Barristers’ Clerk, with significant recent experience of clerking criminal practice. To lead the team you will need to be confident in dealing with all aspects of barrister diary management using software such as MLC or Lex. An excellent communicator, you will be able to form strong professional relationships with your members, colleagues and with existing and potential new clients. Experience in practice management and business development would be a distinct advantage but can be developed further in the role.

In return we offer a friendly and sociable working environment, a competitive salary and benefits package and, with 60+ staff roles across our four sites, excellent opportunities for peer support and career development in the company.
