St John’s Buildings is one of the largest barristers’ chambers in the country serving c.240 barristers across our four city-based sites.  Our two-person HR team provides a full HR service to around 70 employees and additional support to our self-employed barrister members and pupils.

We enjoy excellent employee engagement and retention and pride ourselves on providing an excellent HR service to all.   We are looking for somebody to help us to continue that service during a period of maternity leave from mid-June 2024 for a period of 11 months, with a possible extension to 12 months.

We need somebody with excellent administration skills, who can pick up the role quickly.   Ideally, the candidate will be an experienced Recruitment and/or HR assistant, used to managing and prioritising a busy transactional role, co-ordinating recruitment campaigns with managers, administering starters and leavers, working carefully and discreetly with confidential data, liaising with external providers (e.g. regarding employee benefits) and responding to routine HR and recruitment enquiries.

Strong organisation and IT skills are a must, as well as a high standard of written and spoken communication, a good level of numeracy and excellent team working ability.

An HR qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.

We are looking for somebody to work the equivalent of 3 days (22.5 hours) per week.   We have no fixed idea of which days those will be so can adapt to the individual (within Monday – Friday) but would need some flexibility from the individual to switch days when needed to provide cover, assist with interviews etc. This role is office-based, at our Manchester City Centre site, with occasional travel to our other sites in Liverpool, Chester and Sheffield.
