Laura read Law at Manchester University before being called to the Bar by Middle Temple in 2008, having received a Hardwicke Scholarship from the Inn to study the BVC. She practises in Employment Law, Personal Injury and Inquests.

    Laura acts in all areas of employment law with particular focus on Unfair Dismissal, Whistleblowing and Discrimination.  Recently Laura has been involved in a number of multi-day discrimination trials. The majority of her discrimination work involves the protected characteristics of sex and disability. Laura also acts in single day unfair dismissal cases.

    Laura’s practice is split quite evenly between Claimant and Respondent work; advising and representing both sides. In her Respondent practice, Laura represents many small businesses such as trades, retail businesses and nurseries including businesses with less than 10 employees. Laura also represents individuals included in proceedings as named Respondents, most frequently in discrimination cases.

    Laura is available for written advice or drafting at any stage of an employment dispute. Laura is happy to receive instructions to attend judicial mediation or other negotiation.

  • Personal Injury

    Laura acts in all aspects of personal injury work including Road Accidents, Employers’ Liability and Occupiers’ Liability.

    Her Court work involves trials and other final hearings such as Stage 3 hearings. Her trial work is predominantly on the fast track and small claims track. She also deals with interim hearings such as case management and applications including relief from sanctions and disclosure applications.

    Laura is regularly instructed to advise on prospects of success, offers and evidence. She frequently drafts Particulars of Claim and Defences.

  • Inquests

    Laura has experience of acting for various interested parties in inquests, but predominantly represents bereaved families.

    Laura has experience of full inquests, including multi-day inquests, as well as attending pre-inquest reviews. Laura has acted in Inquests involving deaths in various circumstances including at home, in mental health settings and road accidents.

    She is able to give advice in conference in advance of an inquest and is often asked to explore the likely verdict of the Coroner, the questions to be pursued with individual witnesses, approach to media interest as well as more general information for families about what to expect at the Inquest.
