Expertise

  • Family - Children

Clare undertakes both public and private law cases and has represented Local Authorities, parents, children and interveners in care cases. She regularly deals with cases involving extremely severe allegations of neglect, sexual abuse and non-accidental injury, and is fully conversant with the complex medical evidence and expert testimony that arises in such cases. She is also experienced in dealing with cases involving adoption, special guardianship, long-term foster care placements, residential placements, secure units and cases involving parties with serious learning difficulties.

In the private law arena, Clare acts in all types of residence and contact together with cases involving removal from the jurisdiction, specific issue order and prohibited steps orders. She is mindful of the need to manage expectations in emotive and difficult situations and seeks to find a pragmatic and workable solution in all cases. Clare’s training as a mediator enables her to bring a conciliatory and empathetic manner to all her contested cases and assists her in helping clients to see the best way forward and reach the best outcomes.

She is known as a practitioner who brings an innovative approach to difficult private law cases, and her ability to think ‘outside the box’ and find an often unorthodox solution to potentially insuperable difficulties have led to a strong and loyal following from solicitors in the North West and further afield.

Clare is a trained mediator able to undertake mediation in all types of family proceedings. She is a committed believer in the value of the mediation process in the context of family litigation and considers that the parties in such cases can benefit greatly from agreeing a solution to a dispute, as opposed to having a solution imposed upon them. Clare’s sympathetic and understanding demeanour and her ability to relate effectively to all types of client assist her to make a difference in the resolution of a wide range of cases.
