Jonathan read law at Bristol University and was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 1986. He is a well respected and highly experienced criminal barrister working in all areas of criminal law and related fields. Jonathan is a CPS Grade 4 prosecutor.

Crown Court & appeals

Jonathan is regularly instructed in the following areas: Rape and serious sexual violence, serious violence and large scale public disorder cases.

He has also been involved in major drugs conspiracies, fraud, money laundering and other dishonesty cases. He is experienced in Proceeds of Crime Act proceedings.

He appears frequently for both defence and prosecution in cases of serious child sexual exploitation and familial sexual abuse.

R v Monteiro: A multi handed ‘torture’ case within the small Bolton Portuguese community.

R v Shamin Akhtar and four others: A kidnapping ‘Honour crime’. Subject of a BBC documentary – an extremely sensitive case – indictment included poisoning allegations.

R v H: First prosecution in Cumbria under the controversial hunting legislation.
